In June 2012, researchers from the industry, institutes and universities from all over the world are meeting for three days to exchange knowledge and experience about process development within iron and steel production. At SCANMET you will meet the foremost process developers in the sector along with decision makers from the industry and organisations. General

The conference focuses on research and development activities in steel production, covering all process steps from iron making to continuous casting. The purpose is to bring together internationally recognised engineers and scientists from iron and steel producers, research institutes, universities and equipment suppliers to share knowledge and exchange ideas. The major topics are process development, optimisation and simulation of process systems. The conference spans three days in four parallel sessions. In conjunction to the conference we offer a conference dinner, a visit to the Swerea MEFOS plant facilities and post conference tours.

 

Conference topics

Covering all process steps from iron making and steel making to continuous casting, the main conference topics are:

  • Process development and optimisation
  • Development in pilot and demonstration scale
  • Computer simulation and modelling of process systems
  • Effective energy utilisation
  • Reduction and separation of CO2
  • Process integration and economic aspects
  • Environmental challenges
  • Recycling and resource efficiency

Hotel accommodation

Please note that it is important to make your flight arrangements and hotel reservations as early as possible, well before the 25 May deadline. Hotel reservation is made upon registration.

 

Conference fee

The conference fee includes admission to all sessions, a complete set of the printed conference proceedings as well as an electronic version, lunches and coffee/tea buffet 11-13 June, a visit to Swerea MEFOS and bus transportation (see below). The fee is SEK 10 625 including VAT.

Conference proceedings

Venue

Strategically situated just two kilometres from Luleå Airport, Nordkalotten Hotell & Konferens is the ideal location for our conference. The journey from Stockholm Arlanda International Airport is less than two hours and for those wishing to visit the city; Luleå is only six kilometres away. The conference facilities are ideal for housing parallel sessions and make it easy for the participants to form their own programme. Transfer on arrival

When arriving at Luleå Airport, we recommend you to take a taxi to the hotel or to the conference venue.

 

Bus transportation

Buses marked “SCANMET” will take the participants:

  • between the booked hotels and the conference venue
  • to and from the conference dinner
  • to and from the plant visit to Swerea MEFOS

 

Reception for presenting authors and session chairs

An informal reception for the presenting authors and session chairs is arranged on Sunday 10 June between 19.00-21.00. This will be an opportunity for the session chairs and presenting authors to get acquainted and socialise under leisurely conditions. Casual clothing is strongly recommended. Please state your participation upon your registration.

 

Conference dinner

On Monday 11 June, the conference dinner takes place at the Luleå University of Technology at 19.30. All participants have the chance not only to enjoy the Nordic gourmet cuisine but also be able to discuss business matters under relaxing conditions. Accompanying persons are welcome to attend the conference dinner. The price is SEK 800 per person including VAT. Please state your participation upon your registration.

 

 

Visit to Swerea MEFOS

On Tuesday 12 June, a visit to the Swerea MEFOS plant facilities is arranged. You will be able to see the pyro-metallurgical and the heating and metalworking pilot plant facilities, as well as LKAB’s experimental blast furnace. The visit will include a light meal. Please state your participation upon your registration.

 

Post conference tours

Take the opportunity to explore northern Sweden. Join our post conference tours “Evening Cruise” and “Jokkmokk and the Tree Hotel”. Please visit the conference website for more information and registration to the tours.

All participants are asked to register at the conference office before attending the conference. Sunday 10 June 17.00-19.00 Monday 11 June Open from 07.30

 

Exhibition 11-12 June

The exhibition is the ideal setting for equipment suppliers, consultants and authorities to present their latest technologies and developments for international engineers and scientists from iron and steel companies, research institutes, universities, and suppliers. The exhibition room will house the morning and afternoon coffee/tea on 11-12 June thereby allowing the participants plenty of time to visit the exhibition. There is a limited number of exhibition stands. Cancellation

If cancellation is made before 25 May, the registration fee will be refunded minus a handling fee of SEK 2 000. For cancellation after 25 May, no refunds of any kind will be made.

 

Tourist information

Luleå is situated by the Gulf of Bothnia and is a part of the Swedish Lapland. It is a high-tech town and home to several world-leading companies and its advanced steel industry has made the town a metallurgical centre. Luleå is also the shopping centre of northern Sweden. You will find useful links on the conference website. The weather in June is usually like the mid-European spring, with sunny days (approximately 15 degrees Celsius) and chilly evenings.
