SCANMET III - The 3rd International Conference on Process Development in Iron and Steelmaking, was held in Luleå, Sweden, in June. The conference gathered almost 400 delegates from 27 countries, from every continent except Antarctica.

SCANMET III focussed on research and development activities in steel production, covering all process steps from ironmaking to continuous casting. The delegates could select from 130 presentations in 35 sessions (11 on steelmaking and casting, eight on raw materials, blast furnaces and new methods of ironmaking, six on modelling and process integration and four on energy and environmental issues.)
